Bringing the Romantic Era to Life
After reading more about the Romantic period I can see how it relates to the other periods. I have a better understanding of the other four periods because they are all intertwined. Before reading everyone’s work on the Romantic period I did not think that it had anything to do with the other periods. Many of the authors that I did research on, were also apart of the Romantic period. I have a better understanding because I see that all of the periods have a lot to do with each other. Even though the periods come from different time periods the authors and texts cross over.
Studying more about the Romantic period has also increased my knowledge of the literary themes. I found it very interesting to see how the literary themes were illustrated in Romantic works. I have a better knowledge of the literary themes because now I see them in a different light. When I did my research I saw how the literary themes were present in the texts. I only saw examples of the literary themes in the period I was studying. It helps to see how they fit into another period.
The author that I would have done research, had I done this period was Edgar Allen Poe. When I select an author to do research on I first look and see if I have heard of them before. I have studied Edgar Allen Poe in the past and I am familiar with him. Out of all the authors to choose from he is the only one that I was prior knowledge of. Since I know of Edgar Allen Poe I would have done my research on him. I also might have picked Harriet Jacobs. I picked Harriet Jacobs when I did research for the critique of Slavery. The reason why I picked her then was because she is a female writer and a slave. These are the same reasons why I would have picked her here.
I would have done research on “The Fall of the House of Usher.” After reading about “The Fall of the House of Usher” I was surprised how interesting it was. I like how the literary themes tone and imagery are present. I think that it would have been easy to write my insight paper since those literary themes had so many great examples in the text.
