This is a great source. It provides 12 different definitions of the word character, some of which relate to literature. As the student summary says, I find this site reliable because it partners with Webster's.

This is a Wikipedia source, but I found it very reliable. It has sources cited at the bottom, and it provides a lot of information on character. I think this would be very useful in writing a paper.

This is a helpful source. It lists the types of characters, and the ways a writer reveals character. I recommend this site. It is also credible because it is part of an online writing lab at a college.

This source is credible because it is an .edu address from Princeton. However, the literary definition (#1) is brief. I also do not prefer the description of characters as “imaginary.” From my WikiPedia source (#20) a character may be a fictional representation of a real historical figure. I understand a fictionalized historical figure may be considered “imaginary.” Nevertheless, I think this definition needs clarification, or further explanation.

this source improved my knowledge on the different types of characters that a text can include. It also laid the information out n a simple manner so that a child may learn from it. This source is credible because it is found on many library databases.

This source is credible because it is a combination of many online dictionary definitions on one site. This source gave a simple, understandable definition that is easy to apply to the texts I read.

This resource gives a great definition for character "Any representation of an individual being presented in a dramatic or narrative work through extended dramatic or verbal representation. The reader can interpret characters as endowed with moral and dispositional qualities expressed in what they say (dialogue) and what they do (action)." and helps me better understand it like never before.

This IS my favorite website for different literary terms. It is a credible resource from an academic website and better helps us understand literary terms. The definition specifically for character can be broken down into heroes, protagonists, antagonists etc...

I really liked how this website listed the different types of characters that can appear in literature. It gave good descriptions as well as examples for all eight of the different types. I also liked how the site had sub categories of characters as symbols, the importance of the names of characters, and also uncommon uses. It provided even more information that helped to grasp this literary term.

I loved the background that this website gave as to how the literary term character came about. It traced the term back to its origins, gave what the original Greek words meant, and how it came to be used in literature. I found the section about how not every literary work is concerned with character to be helpful in determining if the specific texts I was reading were concerned with character or not.

3. Henderson, Victoria. "All American: Glossary of Literary Terms." www.uncp.edu. University of North Carolina at Pembroke. 2 June 2007 http://www.uncp.edu/home/canada/work/allam/general/glossary.htm#c
The main purpose of this website is to define literary terms. According to this site, the definition of character is, “a person who is responsible for the thoughts and actions within a story, poem, or other literature. Characters are extremely important because they are the medium through which a reader interacts with a piece of literature.” It continues to give further description on the term and how it is used. For instance, “Every character has his or her own personality, which a creative author uses to assist in forming the plot of a story or creating a mood. The different attitudes, mannerisms, and even appearances of characters can greatly influence the other major elements in a literary work, such as theme, setting, and tone.” This website is very useful when defining terms and gaining an understanding of what it means and how it is used in context.

I feel like this site was similar to source 6 as it provides definitions for literary terms. It makes it a more reliable source than dictionaries because it just defines the words in literary terms instead of character meaning a personality, et.c

This site was VERY useful to define all the literary terms we learned about through this course. It was a glossary which defined any term you would need to know about the class. This helped me understand the meaning of Character.

I did not like this resource as much as the first one. i felt it tried to be too complex with the definition instead of just coming right out with it. Also it seemed like it was not a page that was well developed or that much time was spent on. That makes me trust it less for some reason.

This source is neat because it goes back to the beginning of the word character. i never knew it had so many different uses. The source i used did not mention the origin of the word but I like that this one does.

This source defines character well and applies it to various characters/texts to demonstrate. This is an informative site, but the entry is created by a college student, so I would caution against using this as a sole source. I would consult an additional source to ensure the accuracy of the information.

My research did not uncover this source, but I am glad that I found it here. It went into a lot of detail and discussion about character, which could even give insight to a creative writer in forming characterizations. Of course, it can also help me to understand characters in our literature.

I really liked this resoure. It was better than mine because my talked about round and flat Characters in a story and how a flat character is one who doesn't change through out the story. This resource gives this same information but also goes into the definition of a character as well as antagonist and protagonist and other forms of characters. I felt there was a ton of information in the website in only a paragraph of writing. Great job.
