12. Clark, Michael. "Puritanism" The University of California Irvine School of Humanities. 5 June. 2008 < http://www.humanities.uci.edu/mclark/Core2002/Pix/Puritanism.html >. This website has a great description of the history of Puritanism and how the literature came about. The author also discusses the general Puritan beliefs, and how they relate to the literature. Based on what this author says, I would assume that for a work to be deemed Puritan it generally must be based on religion, particularly divine promise and the threat of imminent failure. This website has excerpts from a few Puritan works and has a heavy focus on Puritan poetry as well, which is useful because it highlights more than the typical sermons of the period. I believe the source to be credible as it is posted as a resource on a university website, by a department of the school focused solely on humanities.

2. Seiferth, Michael S. "Travel Literature In Early Virginia." The Seventeenth Century: Echoes Of The Renaissance And Reformation . Related Resources on American Literature on The Web. 3 June 2007 < http://lonestar.texas.net/~mseifert/amlit1.html >. The page contains notes by an English professor defining the writings and influences of the significant authors of the Puritanism period as well as a historical analysis of the period. The site offers a view into the period through the historical analysis and through each of the authors works and contributions that had effects in society during his/her time. Although the site fails to address a date of publication for the site, the information contained, however, appear helpful to those who are interested: students, teachers, researchers, or any interested individual in the subject of early american literature and its history. What is most appealing about the website, in one's own opinion, is that the site offers a brief biography about the significant writers during the 16th and 17th century and their influences, as individuals and through the writings and other accomplishments, on society.

Gotta love Wikipedia! Although often times there are debates as to whether Wikipedia is credible or not, given the list of references, I would say this is a credible site. I particularly like Wikipedia because it offers a quick and easy to read article on the Puritans. It offered a lot of information regarding their background, terminology, beliefs and so forth.

This was an excellent website and I definitely agree with the credibility of the author. This site improved my knowledge of Puritanism because it showed various perspectives and dispelled certain myths and so forth. By showing different Puritan perspectives, it broadens ones knowledge of a certain era of people and their way of life. Very informative site.

This source increased my understanding of Puritans. It gave details about their religion and the way they lived their lives. By really analyzing the people themselves it makes it easier to see where the authors from this period are coming from. This site is credible in my opinion because it comes from an esteemed database.

This site seems credible because it came from the University of California school web page and the author does a lot of research in Early American Literature. This source improved my understanding of puritanism because it discussed the creation of the sect and continued on to discuss different texts that came from the period.

This Helium article provided a lot of good information about the Puritan time period. I liked how it was focused more on who the Puritans were. Knowing that helped me to better adapt it to their writings of the time.

This resource is very credible and talks a lot about the common puritan beliefs. It gives great definitions and helps you understand the core beliefs of things like TULIP (Or the ideas of it) Total depravity, Unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistable grace, and perseverance of the saints. PRedestination is discussed, and election. It helps me understand the puritan beliefs better. http://academic.brooklyn.cuny.edu/english/melani/novel_18c/defoe/puritanism.html#puritanism

This resource is very precise in describing common characteristics of the Puritanism period. The title Puritanism and Predestination fits so well with the topics and beliefs discussed. This resource talks about the Puritans idea of sin, and how it needed to change how the culture viewed sin, and remove pagan practices that were not biblical in the church. A very credible resource. It also better helped me understand the Puritans beliefs and the extremes they went to for their beliefs.

"Puritan." Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia. 2 Jun 2009, 11:17 UTC. 2 Jun 2009 <http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Puritan&oldid=293922305>. The purpose of this website is to explain the Puritans belief in God and how they felt about being forgiven for sin. They are taught to do what is right before God. It explains the beliefs in the Church and their desire to learn the bible is the correct way of life. It would be easy to see if specific text would fit in this period by looking to see if the text has anything to do with God, sin, or the bible. This resource was helpful in reading an interpreting the Puritan literary period because it discussed the specific distinctions in this era. This is a credible website because it is intended to provide information to readers about this time in history.

“PURITANISM." Funk & Wagnalls New Encyclopedia. 5 june 2009 <http://newfirstsearch.oclc.org.ezp.mc.maricopa.edu/>.The main purpose for the website is to describe the literary period of Puritanism. It explains when the Puritanism period started in the latter part of the 16th century. It describes how the Quakers, Separatists, and Nonconformists were referred to as Puritans. This period of time was mainly described as some will be saved by God despite their sins. The website describes how Puritanism became a political as well as a religious movement. The criteria used in the website to help determine if a specific author fit into this period is to see if the author writes specifically about the Holy Spirit or determining the destiny of one’s life. The author should also discuss the conversion from life to the destiny of a person’s life. This website was easy to interpret the meaning of Puritanism. The themes stand out and they make it simple to determine whether an author’s work was completed in this literary period. This is a credible website because the author’s are known. The Funk and Wagnall’s Encyclopedia is a well known resource. The information appears to be researched as it refers to many different religious terms dealing directly with Puritanism. The purpose of this site is to provide information. I was able to find the site through the MCC library database.

I felt like this would be a good source to get general information on. I wish it had extra tabs that contained extra information or split up the information it did inform you of into groups. It was hard to pay attention to the reading because all of the information was written on one page and just given as a summary.

I think that this resource is more difficult to understand right off than some of the other ones and it seems to have limited amount of information. It is good however that it provides references to show documentation of where the information came from.

I liked this resource because it gave basic beliefs of the puritans and they were bulleted so they were easy to find the main points instead of having to read a ton of un-needed information. It also talks specifically about the role that puritan writers had which I did not see in my research.

I usually read the beginnings of paragraphs when looking for a resource. If I read further, it is because there may be something that I would borrow or learn from it. If I see value, then I look more in depth. With this site I actually saw an interesting view on the developement of Puritanism and its literature, and spent some time looking over the page.
