In regards to setting, this site gives a short basic definition. Overall, this is a great resource because it provides a lot of information about the elements of literature. It seems like a reliable source as it comes from a community college website.

Merriam-Webster dictionary is obviously a reliable source. It provides 6 different definitions for setting. I think this source is useful if you want to know the basic definition of what a setting is, but that's about it.

I like this source because it described the importance setting plays in a text. I do not think it is credible because it does not have a clearly stated author or editor.

This source improved my knowledge of setting in a literary format because it told you to look for specific language because that is how an author creates the setting. This source is credible because because it is a teacher resource site.

This resource was particularly useful in udnerstanding setting and is very credible. The 2 characteristics of setting that helped me understand it better were It can create an atmosphere that affects our response to the work. It may have a direct effect on a character's motivation..

The position, direction, or way in which something, such as an automatic control, is set. The context and environment in which a situation is set; the background. The time, place, and circumstances in which a narrative, drama, or film takes place.
These definitions were particularly useful from this source. It was not the best in helping understanding setting. But it is a good assistant resource!

The site is credible, since it is hosted by Merriam-Webster. I think #3 is the definition that best applies to literature. It reads: a: the time, place, and circumstances in which something occurs or develops b: the time and place of the action of a literary, dramatic, or cinematic work c: the scenery used in a theatrical or film production. Although choice “b” mentions literature (naming setting as where the action occurs), I think “a” is helpful to keep in mind; setting may be the time, place, and circumstance in which something occurs OR develops. My other readings (for example, #19) describe setting as a place/time that is chosen by the author to help “set” the mood. (No pun intended. ;-) ) In a story, setting works as part of the whole. It helps, and is helped by, the other literary terms.

The article is brief, but includes links to the various kinds of setting. I found the links more helpful than the actual article. WikiPedia is usually helpful and credible because of peer review, citations, and links to reliable outside sources. However, this particular page is unpolished. It needs more information, more citation, and easier explanation.

I liked how this website gave examples of different settings in well known stories. It helps to point it out in something familiar to you so that later on you can apply it to something new. I thought that this website gave a very clear and concise definition for setting and I found it to be very informative over all.

I think this website did a great job of introducing the literary term setting. It gave a lot of good background information, including how writers use it. I also found the link to ‘what the setting tells us’ to be very helpful as well. I think this website is a credible source because learner.org itself has always been highly recommended by many other professors when doing background research on a topic.

I like that the definition is first and I also think it is good that it mentions that the setting has a great deal to do with the character and how he or she acts, thinks, etc.

This resource would be a good place to start the study of setting in literature. It provides a basic defintion and gives links to synoyms for further reading. It would be helpful for the posting to include an example of setting in a text from American literature.

I really liked this resource and think that both researchers and creative writers could benefit from it. This resource provides a wonderful quote by Eudora Welty to describe the importance of setting--essentially, every story would be completely different and wrong for its characters if its setting changed. I would have liked the posting to describe setting in an example text, though.

9: This is a really good resource for getting a basic understanding of setting. There is a little information on how to find the setting in a work that doesn't plainly say it. However this source doesn't provide a lot of detail on how setting effects literature, which I would have liked to see in such a basic source
12: I was really disappointed with this resource because there is barely any information available. There are definitions but nothing else. Also, the site is cluttered with ads, and it is hard to find the information I was looking for.

I loved this resource because it not only defines what settng means but tells how writers decribe setting as well as gives a great lengthy example of an author using setting. This resource was better than mine because it gave so much more information and made it easier to see where an author uses setting in a story and how they are able to write it.
