This source is reliable because it comes from a .edu site. It has a full paragraph explaining tone and provides a compare contrast of 2 different ways to write the same basic story using different tones. I would use this website as a reference and I found it very helpful.

This source is reliable because it was written by Poe himself. It is an essay he wrote regarding composition. He uses several examples from The Raven in this essay, which is fitting because it is one of Poe's most famous works and has a very distinctive tone throughout.

this source was helpful because you were able to look at alot of poems and see the use of tone and style yourself. This source is credible because it is associated with Columbia University.

I found this source helpful because it created a clear definition to look for when analyzing a text to see where the author used tone and stlye. This source is credible because it comes from a Texas college website.

This resource specifically deals with style not so much with tone. But style of writing is described very well so this is a half useful resource for style anyways not so much for tone. But good resource to help understand style in writing.

"The voice that conveys the poem's tone; its implied attitude toward its subject." a very good defintion of tone and style. This resource is credible and helps understand tone and style in poetry particular but also writing in general in American Literature.

This website really helped me get a better understanding of tone and style. It focused on a few different literary terms, all which had ties back to the tone of a story. It states that the style, tone, and voice of the story are the most important parts. It is mainly to help college students write papers, but gives great descriptions of each of the terms.

For being just a glossary website, I was surprised how in-depth its definition for tone was. I really liked the definition it gave of tone being ‘the means of creating a relationship or conveying an attitude or mood’. This is such a good definition and really captures all of what the tone of a story is. This is a credible website because it is a reliable .edu source primarily for literary resources.

This is a good source for writers, and it comes from a credible .edu address. However, I question the extent of its helpfulness outside composition and creative writing. The examples aim to help the student improve their writing, but then it mentions the amount of subjectivity within style. Not everyone has identical tastes, even when they are from the same background, culture…or time. So, I think there is the potential for misunderstanding. The site does not seem to mention that, when reading the classics, context becomes an additive consideration. As long as you keep context in mind, though, it will probably be an informative page.

This resource is short, but if you backtrack to the literary term page it has a handy list of terms to get you started. I found a link on “tone” that sent me to “mood,” and I never considered the similarity and difference between the two terms. Mood seems more emotional and particular to the moment of writing, while tone appears more revealing of the author’s opinion on the subject. At first I hesitated to call this site credible because it ends in .com, but it is run by an English teacher. He seems to have a full resume.

It was credible because it was a UNC handout.. however it didn't seem like it was in the right context.. more just explaining to for writing purposes to students from instructors.

I found this to be an extremely helpful resource because it differentiates between tone, style, and voice. Although all 3 combine to work together, it is important to understand that each is a separate device. This would be a very useful site for someone who is a creative writer. The posting raises a good question at the end . . . I wish it would have answered it.

The resource is very sparse but accomplishes its task of defining tone. The posting helps to flesh out the definition by providing examples of tone and referring to Thomas Paine's work. However, it would be even more helpful if the posting gave a specific example of the serious tone it mentions about Paine's work.

This resource was very thorough as it talked about tone even giving examples and way in which an author may use tone in a story. The only difference in my website is that it also gaves ways in which to be careful when using tone and style in a paper, so that you don't get to wordy etc.

This resource gave indepth defintion of both tone and style. According to this website tone is also known as voice and can gives the attitude or mood of the story. I liked how the defintion goes into to details about how two different authors may write the same story but use a different tone. The one think that was different and at my resource that made it a little easier to navigate was that the information about tone and style were related to each other on the same page while you had to navigate to another page on this resource and it didn't tie the two together.

10: This source provides a brief statement on what style is. I find that this is a good source because it is reliable and the information is to the point. This however is not a detailed enough source for someone who may need the additional help.
12: I found this source to be highly valuable in leaning about style. Not only is there a detailed paragraph of what style is, but there are also ideas to help improve style. This gives readers a chance to look at style in the eyes of a writer, which I feel helps to judge style more efficiently. This is a great source!
