I liked this website because of how it is set up. The set up of the website made it easier to read and understand the concept of transcendentalism. I also like how there are links for other website which provide more information on topics related to the movement. This is a credible university website.

I liked this website because of the way it opened up. I will admit that doing the packets I never really understood what transcendentalism is so the introduction pulled me in. I like how Lewis offered various ways to look and define transcendentalists such as a group of well education people and a group who were trying to define spirituality and religion. I learned a lot of information and understand the concept more.

I like this source because it gives a timeline of major events in the Transcendentalist period. It gives a great definition and has some good Transcendentalist quotes at the end.

This is a credible source because it comes from a professor. While it provides an analysis of Transcendentalism, it does so from a very specific viewpoint, which in some cases may or may not be a helpful source.

The resource posting although done on a geocities website seems fairly credible. It provides a good defintiion of transcendentalism "Transcendentalism is the belief or doctrine asserting the existence of an ideal spiritual reality that transcends the empirical and scientific and is knowable through intuition." and allows to better understand the writers of this time period as well.

This resource is very credible and gives a very detailed description of the birth and progression of the trancendentalism period and shows how it continued through the Americas. Definitions are given and this helps me best understand the Transcendentalist period.

Merriam-Webster is a credible source, so the site is a trustworthy dictionary. Although the definition is short, it agrees with my other readings of the era. Transcendentalism “emphasizes the transcendent as the fundamental reality.” This transcendent asserts “the spiritual” over “the material and empirical.” Most important, I think, is the association of transcendental as a “visionary idealism.” Transcendentalists were idealists. Their idealisms were a unique vision for their time.

This site is a good introduction to transcendentalism. The most helpful information is how transcendentalists, like Emerson, study Buddhist and Hindu scripture. Other sources I came across talk about the importance of other cultures, but they don’t specify exactly which ones were the most influential. I also agree with the credibility of this site because it has won awards for its content. The editor has won awards, and is a minister and professor at a theological school. He does a good job of presenting the information in a friendly, but factual and unbiased, manner.

Campbell, Donna M. "American Transcendentalism." 21 May 2007 Literary Movements. 17 June 2007 < http://www.wsu.edu/~campbelld/amlit/amtrans.htm >.
This website offers a brief overview of American Transcendentalism. It includes an actual overview section, various definitions, sources, ideas from Emerson, context and controversy. If however, you are looking for more information it recommends to check out Lawrence Buell’s Literary Transcendentalism and other works from Thoreau and Emerson. This website was helpful because it laid out the information in a simple manner. The website did not offer too much information, but at the same time it did not offer too little. I was able to read the sections and understand transcendentalism and identify various authors who are associated with this era.

“Transcendentalism” Wikipedia The Free Encyclopedia. June 20, 2007. June 23, 2007. < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transcendentalism >
The main purpose of this website is to provide readers with quick information regarding transcendentalism. It includes a brief history of transcendentalism, the origins, criticism, how it influenced other movements, other meanings of transcendentalism within idealism and theology and it offers references and external links. This resource was helpful in defining the term. Wikipedia is set up in a simple, easy to read format which makes understanding material and terms easier. It is arguable whether Wikipedia is a credible cite or not. In this instance however, I would consider it credible because it simply offers the definition and a little background information.

This person used this resource originally, I believe, but others used it again later. As stated in my previous posting, the explanation given for the resource was not very helpful. However, the website itself seemed to be very helpful and had a lot of information about the Transcendentalists. Again, I don't necessarily agree with the credibility of this site.

This resource posting explained why the website helped the reader to understand more about the Transcendentalists. However, it did not give much detail about the information actually on the website. I don't necessarily agree with the credibility of this resource because I don't think the sponsorship should determine that.

I felt like this site was very helpful. It started off with giving you a summary about the period then it broke down more paragraphs that went in detail about authors in the period.

I like this resource because it gives clear descriptions of what Transcendentalism is in a way that the most common person can understand. It doesn't use any uneccesary or over the top grammar or information which makes it easier for readers to understand and relate to.

This was the next site that I saw with a link, and when I went to it I was greeted with "site not found." So, I wouldn't have tried harder if I was looking for resources. I'm quick, and easy, and this wasn't! Maybe you'll have better luck.

I find it interesting that this source comes from a women's history page. It shows that literary movements can promote or reflect progressive thoughts of an era. I learned from this source that Transcendentalim moved beyond telling stories and stood behind its principles--standing up for peoples' rights, including women, fulfilling their idea of a spiritual existence within people.

This source provides a good introduction to Transcendentalism, which can be a difficult concept. I like the summary of Emerson's definition of the period and the main idea of Transcendentalism. The term "American Renaissance" also helps to show the signifcance of this period. Also helpful is that the site gives authors and artists, showing that often a literary movement runs concurrently with movements in art and other realms of expression and society.

"Transcendentalism." Encyclopedia Britannica. 2008. Encyclopedia Britannica Online. 4 June 2008 <http://search.eb.com/eb/article-9073185>.
The purpose of the website is to provide web access to anyone who may need information out of the encyclopedia. This website talks about the period as a time when the writers of the period were exploring thought and creation. They understood the importance of man and equality and also were the start of a very artistic movement. I think it is helpful to make sense of other elements such as authors and themes because it has such a vast supply of information. Most of the famous authors from the period can be researched on this sight as well. This is a credible website because I got the link from the library’s page and also because it is a very renowned encyclopedia used by students all over the country.
