I like this source because it talks about connotation and denotation, which are very important aspects of word choice. The connotation and denotation of a word have a huge effect on its perceived meaning. This source is reliable because it is written by a well educated author and the information is accurate.

This is the Oxford English Dictionary site, which is obviously a very well known and reliable dictionary. I think that it gives a good definition of word choice, however, the site has a lot of other information on the same page, so it is a little difficult to navigate. I probably would use a more organized dictionary.

I liked this source because it stressed that in word choice the goal is not to use big, fancy words but to use vocabulary that the intended audience will relate to. This source is credible because it is a non-profit organization that is really just trying to provide useful information to students and teachers.

this source was helpful because it really emphasized the importance of word choice in poetry. It gave good instructions on how to create a good poem and how do use words to your advantage. This source is credible because the author is a poet and has published many books.

First of all, this is a reliable source because it is frequently updated by a university professor. The site has a thorough, helpful glossary of terms that are applied to fiction and poetry. I found this line the most helpful: “The word choice a writer makes determines the reader's reaction to the object of description, and contributes to the author's style and tone.” I like how it describes word choice as the reader’s REACTION to the object of description. (I think it is well stated.) The definition also shows how the literary terms work together. In this case, it is word choice/diction with style and tone.

This site made me consider the specific changes in word choice over time. So, I agree with Sarah. This is the site’s high point. It shows how the context of an era is an important consideration when interpreting an author’s work.
On the “flip side,” the site leans toward writers more than the literary student. Some of the suggestions were helpful to me as a writer. For instance, suggestion #4 was a helpful tip.
The source appears credible. It is first and foremost an electronic publisher, but it has connections with literary magazines in the U.K. The site is an organization that remains unaffiliated with any literary era or movement, in order to remain unbiased.

I found this resource to be very brief and not very helpful in my understanding of the term. It was geared more towards syntax in general rather than specific word choice. The examples that it gave were focused more on how certain words should go in a sentence to make it flow, rather than what words should be used.

This is a very good resource for the history of word choice in literature. It discusses how as time goes on the words that writers choose must change as well. I particularly liked how it gave examples of the types of words that were used during the different periods. It made it very easy for me to read my text and understand why the author chose the words that they did.

This site was useful because it had a more complex definition that was easy to understand. It also had a lot of the words we used in this course.

It seemed like this site was based toward the puritanism period. I know that word choice was linked to it... but i would have preferred a site directed toward word choice, not one with a sentence about word choice in a huge paper.

I liked that this source makes you understand the word in the terms of our own papers. it makes more sense when we know we use it so frequently. Plus it helps tell you how to correct your papers.

The most significant point for me in this posting is that word choice intentionally evokes a response in the reader. An author skillfully chooses words that may tap into a reader's subconscious, previous experiences, or prejudices. It reminds me to look carefully at how the author writes, not just what he/she writes.

This resource seems to be more for creative writers, instructing them on how to wisely choose their words. But we could learn the importance of word choice here also. The definition comes through the explanation of how to use the technique. If the posting included a reference to one of our texts, though, it would have further developed the signifcance of word choice.

This resource posting gives a defintion as an effect created by the authors use of words. I felt this defintion didn't describe the term very well. It left me feeling like I wanted more information on how word choice is used in writing to make it better etc. My resource gave examples on how to use word choice in literature which gave a better understanding on how it can be used effectively.

2: I liked this resource because it provided a great foundation for the practicing poet (the alliteration was unintentional). It helps us to view word choice as a tool and really allows us to glimpse at the element from the other side, from the eyes of an author, which I feel helps one to develop a better appreciation for what good word choice is.
7: I think this particular site is fantastic for a source on Word choice. It discusses the importance of Word Choice and also provides many comprehensive examples of how to work with your word choice. It even helps deal with clichés, and it also gives advice for academic writing.

This resource gave you the defintion of word choice where my resource gave you not only the defintion but also broke it down into smaller pieces giving examples for each part of word choice. Like Cliches and misused words. My website also gave suggestions how to use better word choice. This resource was great for the definition of word choice.
